Christopher T. Kalkines, Psy.D., President and Principal

Dr. Kalkines is a Jacksonville native and was graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Florida. He was employed for nine years at a private psychiatric hospital in several roles including Director of Social Services and Director of Administration before entering the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Denver, School of Professional Psychology where he completed his Doctor of Psychology degree in 1989. In Denver, Dr. Kalkines was employed as a behavioral medicine research assistant at the University of Colorado Department of Family Medicine and in clinical positions at Rose Medical Center, St. Anthony Hospital Systems EAP Program, Aurora Presbyterian Hospital, the University of Denver Student Mental Health Clinic, and in private practice. He accepted a commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy and completed the Clinical Psychology Internship Program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland before being transferred to Naval Hospital, Orlando. There, Dr. Kalkines directed outpatient mental health services and served as the primary psychological consultant to the prestigious Naval Nuclear Power Schools, which train the technicians and engineers who operate US Navy nuclear reactors. Dr. Kalkines was decorated by the Navy and officially recognized by the American Psychological Association for service with the First Marine Expeditionary Force in Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Shield. In that role, he was the first US military psychologist deployed to the Southwest Asian theatre of operations and perhaps the first psychologist ever to provide clinical services in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Kalkines returned to Jacksonville and joined the Byron Harless group in 1992. He has been a principal and President since 1998. Since joining the firm, he has completed over 20,000 assessments of individuals, utilizing a variety of scientifically validated techniques. His primary practice areas are in talent assessment for selection and development purposes, law enforcement/sensitive duties pre-employment and Fitness for Duty examinations, and forensic psychology. Dr. Kalkines currently serves as the primary consultant conducting pre-employment, promotion, and development assessments for a number of private businesses, government entities, and religious/non-profit organizations. For many years prior to consolidations, he was a principal psychologist for Barnett Banks and 45+ affiliates, SunTrust Banks (North Florida/Panhandle), Hibernia National Bank (Louisiana), Mercantile Bank (Missouri), and many others in banking and financial services. He was active with a number of dot-com start ups in the early 2000's and maintains long-term relationships with clients in insurance/financial services, municipal government, media, manufacturing, health care, and engineering/construction. As the economy has changed, he has become increasingly involved with services for e-commerce companies. 

Dr. Kalkines has served as a consultant to numerous local, state, federal, and international law enforcement and security organizations. He has conducted more than 5000 evaluations on referrals from such agencies, in addition to several thousands more during the course of his military service. He presently serves as the psychological consultant to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Hostage Negotiator/CISM teams and serves as the primary psychological consultant for almost every major law enforcement agency in Northeast Florida. He completed psychological mass casualty response training through the Navy and the National Organization for Victim's Assistance (NOVA), and has specialized clinical expertise in Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Mass Casualty Response, Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) incidents, and workplace violence/threat assessment. Dr. Kalkines is retained as a consultant and expert with particular expertise in employment law cases involving sexual harassment, ADA, FMLA, EEOC, and mental disorder and disability issues. He has repeatedly been admitted as an expert witness and testified at trial in both Federal and State courts, as well as administrative hearings.

Dr. Kalkines is a psychologist licensed to practice in Florida and is a member of the Florida Psychological Association, having served as President of the Northeast Florida Chapter.  He is a graduate of the inaugural class of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Citizen's Police Academy and is a current member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). He has served as a mayoral appointee to the Victim's Assistance Advisory Council and was a founding member of the Arlington Rotary Club, where he held several leadership positions. He was an invited Adjunct Professor in psychometrics at the University of North Florida.
